Offers like Google AI Plus and Spotify Student are free or cheap, but they still ask for a card so they can charge you when the free period ends. For a lot of students this is the step where it goes wrong: the card is declined, or it works and then they forget to cancel.
What we haven't tested yet: which card gets through on each offer. We're collecting reports from students and will add a table here. If a card worked or failed for you, use the report button on that offer.
Free to get in the app. Payments in other currencies cost 6% on top, or a flat Rs 55 if the payment is Rs 800 or less, plus tax. Most students use SadaPay or NayaPay for international payments.
Works much the same way. One thing to know: you get 5 failed international payments for free. After that NayaPay charges you to reset the counter, and more failures can get the card blocked.
Many bank debit cards come with international use switched off. Turn it on in your bank's app or by calling the helpline before you try. Students have reported HBL, Meezan and UBL debit cards being declined by Spotify even with it on, so keep a second option ready.
If you or a parent have one, it's the most likely to be accepted. Use it only if you're sure you'll cancel in time.
Each failed attempt counts. On NayaPay, more than 5 failed international payments costs money and can get your card blocked.
The free period turns into a paid plan on its own. The day you claim an offer, put a reminder in your phone a week before it ends:
If you can't find how to cancel, freezing a virtual card stops the next charge, but cancel properly as well, or the service may keep retrying.
When you pay a foreign company by card, your bank may also deduct tax on top of the card's own fee. The rate is set in the federal budget and can change, so check the breakdown of the charge in your app. Card spending abroad is also capped by the State Bank at USD 30,000 a year, which no student offer comes close to.
